Australian Industry Puts on a Show in Parliament

On Monday, over 300 political, Defence and defence industry representatives assembled in Parliament House for the 2nd Annual Australian Industry & Defence Network (AIDN) Policy Symposium & Sovereign Capability Showcase; once again, proudly produced by Precision Public Affairs.

The event brought to the very forefront of discussion the critical economic and security assets local defence industry provides for Australia; and stimulated debate surrounding the path forwards for the industry. It also represents only the second time since Federation that Australian Defence Industry has come to Parliament House,

This year, AIDN were honoured to deliver the event in partnership with the newly established Parliamentary Friends of Defence Industry; co-chaired by longstanding defence industry advocate, Ms Meryl Swanson MP, Member for Paterson, and ADF veteran, Mr Keith Wolahan MP, Member for Menzies.

At the Policy Symposium, delegates had the opportunity to hear directly from a wide range of Government, Defence and industry leaders regarding the practical implications of the deteriorating strategic environment; and how to foster greater collaboration between Government and industry to strengthen Australia’s strategically important sovereign industrial and manufacturing capabilities at a grassroots level.

Guest speakers included, among many others, the Minister for Defence Industry, Hon Pat Conroy MP; Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans Affairs, Hon Matt Keogh MP; Secretary of the Department of Defence, Greg Moriarty; Rear Admiral David Mann CSC, Head of Joint Capabilities; Deputy Secretary for Capability, Acquisition and Sustainment Group, Chris Deeble AO CSC; and Director – Defence Strategy and National Security, Australian Strategic Policy Institute, Bec Shrimpton.

This robust, insightful and wide-ranging discussion was followed by the Sovereign Capabilities Showcase in Parliament House’s Mural Hall. Flanked by several hundred defence industry delegates and scores of parliamentarians from across the political spectrum, thirty-two (32) defence industry SMEs from across Australia showcased their world-class capabilities, and discussed with attendees the economic, industrial and defence opportunities available through greater investment in sovereign capabilities.

Our sincere thanks to the AIDN’s event sponsors, including the day’s platinum sponsor, Synergy Group. Without their support, this important event would not be possible.
