Precision Public Affairs welcomes Brigadier (Ret’d), Ian Langford, DSC and Bars

Precision Public Affairs (PPA) is continuing to build its strategic advisory offering with former Army Brigadier, Ian Langford, DSC and Bars, PhD , the newest addition to our growing team. Ian will be joining PPA as Senior Strategic Adviser next month.

Ian is well-known to many of PPA’s clients, having recently retired from service after leading the delivery of Army’s $55 billion capital investment as Head Land Capability (HLC).

Ian’s distinguished 30-year ADF career included multiple deployments to Afghanistan and Timor Leste, as well as deployments to Bougainville, Solomon Islands, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and the South-West Pacific. He is the only officer whose service from contemporary deployments has been honoured with the awarding of a Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) on three separate occasions.

Complementing his operational experience, Ian has also been at the forefront of thinking on the ADF’s land capability and concepts in recent years. He played a major role in formulating the Defence Strategic Update and Force Structure Plan of 2022, and was Director-General, Future Land Warfare between 2018 and 2021, where he had stewardship of Army’s once-in-a-generation capability re-capitalisation.

In 2019/20, he was appointed as an Honorary Aide de Camp to the Governor-General. He was until recently also the patron of the Defence Entrepreneur’s Forum, an internationally recognised innovation pathway for young leaders as part a global defence innovation network.

Ian’s academic pursuits are equally legendary. In addition to a PhD in Strategic Studies awarded in 2020, he holds three (3) Masters degrees in International Relations, Military Studies and Operational Studies, the latter completed at the United States Marine Corps University.

A true polymath, Ian’s knowledge, skills and judgement will no doubt serve each of our clients – within and beyond the defence sector.

PPA looks forward to personally introducing ‘Langers’ in October, following his return from a short stint guest lecturing in the USA.

PPA’s Founder and Managing Director Sarah Cullens said: “Ian Langford’s understanding of Australia’s defence landscape, as well as his deep technical experience, will be invaluable to our growing defence clientele. We are delighted to welcome him to the PPA team.”

Dr Langford said: “I’m very excited to join such a professional team at an important time; I’m looking forward to the challenges and opportunities to deliver with PPA.”
